Staying connected
European visitors roam free across the EU with their home data plan. Everyone else: grab an eSIM before you land (Airalo, Holafly and similar sell Italy plans for a few euros) or a tourist SIM at Marco Polo airport arrivals. Free Wi-Fi is widespread - the city's Venezia Unica network covers the main squares and piers, and most hotels and cafés hand out passwords. For offline maps, download the area in Google Maps ahead of time: the narrow calli make GPS jumpy, and a cached map is worth more than gold in a city without street addresses in the usual sense.

Getting an Italian SIM
