In a nutshell: the airport (Marco Polo VCE) is the main gateway, with Treviso as the low-cost alternative; the train is the grand entrance - Venezia Santa Lucia lands you straight on the Grand Canal, and if yours ends at Mestre it's a €1.40 ten-minute hop; the car stops at Piazzale Roma, where the road network simply ends.
